Staff Success: Sydney Lawson

Sydney Lawson began her career at DPL Group in 2016 as an Office Apprentice. Through dedication and hard work, she has progressed to the role of Works Coordinator with a high level of responsibility. Sydney’s story is a testament to the potential for growth and success here at DPL. Here’s Sydney’s story of her career path and the milestones that have defined her career so far.

“I started at DPL in December 2016 at the age of 18 years old, where I was an Office Apprentice’. I was extremely nervous as I was looking for a career change at this point in my life, however everyone at DPL made me feel extremely welcome.

When I first started my role was very basic, I would create invoices, electrical certificates and any other general administrative tasks. The apprenticeship lasted for 2 years and I earned a Level 3 in Business Administration.  I worked closely under James Bond (Director) who has always believed in me since day one, and has been one of my biggest support systems in helping me better my skills for my future.

I started to progress within DPL after my apprenticeship and have taken on much more responsibility over the years. My role is now ‘Works Coordinator’ where I have the responsibility of around 15 engineers to who I sort work for every day and resolving any issues they may have.

I have also progressed to a role where I have a lot more involvement with contractors that we work for such as Ipswich Borough Council and Flagship. DPL have also now offered to put me on an ILM Level 3 management course, which I will be doing in September 2023.

Without the support of DPL I would not be where I am in my career today. DPL are a wonderful company to work for and I would encourage anyone who is looking for a new change to work for such an amazing company!”
