How long have you worked for DPL? – I was the first person through the door!!

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – As Managing Director I have many responsibilities and to list them would not be easy however the way I see it I am there to:

1. Oversee the successful leadership and management of the company’s business
2. Adding new DNA to the company’s think pot
3. Developing the culture of the business and encouraging personal growth and development of its employees.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – After failing to secure an electrical apprentice position after leaving school I dabbled with various building trades until I finally decided to put myself through college, West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds, a few years later I passed out and was awarded the Rogers precision cup for being the best apprentice of the year!! With my new qualification, I thought what do I do now so I started my own company, after a couple of iterations DPL was formed. Through DPL we have been able to offer hundreds of apprentice positions and training opportunities, that’s what makes me proud!! 

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The fantastic people I work alongside, the employment and training opportunities we offer youngsters, and seeing DPL Group grow and become what it is today while still retaining its family feel.

When did you start working for DPL? – Since it commenced in 2001, 22 years ago

What are three responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Company Director

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Our apprenticeship programme, which has continually expanded year after year in all divisions of the company.

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The Staff, we have a fantastic team, and I love seeing them grow personally in their roles.

When did you start working for DPL? – I joined DPL in December 2011

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Responsible for M&E contracting 
2. Business development for the whole group
3. Social value and community engagement 

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Starting the contracting side adding the mechanical side from scratch, watching the company and the people within DPL grow 

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – Hearing great feedback on the work of our excellent site and office staff

When did you start working for DPL? – I started working for DPL in November 2006

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Helping employees improve their skills to reach their career goals
2. Visionary behind company operations, risk management, and writing company policies
3. Collaboratively working with the stakeholders and fellow directors to drive business growth and improve customer service to our client

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Initially being part of a small business 17 years ago, with very few employees, then collaboratively working with a great team to drive and build a lasting family enterprise, and to become one of the largest and most respected businesses in East Anglia. 

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – I enjoy the open work environment, and the opportunity to work with talented and passionate people, where every staff member is valued.  We have built a great working culture where everybody is encouraged to have fun together, enjoy each other’s company and work hard to achieve their individual goals, which in turn makes for an enjoyable place for our staff to work and express themselves.

What are three responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Management of M&E contracting department and overseeing all Project managers & engineers & Costing variations / additional works for current and future projects.

2. Management of labour resources, subcontractors & procurement of materials to deliver projects on time / budget

3. Maintaining positive relationships with the client base

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Delivering a multi-million-pound project at the port of Harwich in the space of 10 weeks on time & within the budget. Working hours were 24/7 to achieve this in such a short timescale.

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The wide variety of work and clients we have the pleasure of working for.

When did you start working for DPL? – February 2018

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Looking after all aspects of the company’s finances, from petty cash to annual accounts preparation, and everything in between. If there is a £ sign involved, then quite often so am I.
2. Processing payroll for 100+ members of staff
3. Ensuring the monthly management accounts and annual financial statements are prepared accurately and in a timely manner.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – I passed my professional exams over 35 years ago (my membership number is 2 digits). My daughter Ellie is studying for the same exams, I am proud that she is following in my “number” steps

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – Having worked for a number of companies over the years, the team at DPL is the best I have worked with. You always feel supported, and your point of view is listened to. Work hard or play hard, it’s never dull at DPL

When did you start working for DPL? – February 2015

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Compiling Electrical tenders, reviewing incoming invitations to tender and consulting with Vincent, DPL’s M&E Contracts Director on the suitability of each enquiry. Allocate enquiries to relevant estimators, provide all documentation and provide a programme for when said tenders are to be returned. Then vet completed tenders and submit them to the customer.
2. simPRO, DPL’s business enterprise software maintenance and updating to ensure costs are current etc.
3. General management of the estimating team and keeping up communications with customers & suppliers

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Promotion from Estimator to Estimating Manager has been one of the highlights of my career with DPL. With the role of Manager, I can monitor and see the estimating team grow with their abilities and knowledge of the construction industry. It’s great to be able to help out with the progression of their careers. A great team! 

Winning projects, that goes without saying really. The higher-value ones with big numbers give you a kick, but any tender success gives you a moment to be proud. 

Building good relationships with customers, suppliers etc. The bottom line is always important in this industry, however, building good relationships with those that matter, can sometimes give you an edge over competitors

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The office atmosphere is second to none. All staff and colleagues are friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help each other out, This goes for all departments, Pre-Construction, Design, Construction, small works etc. The list goes on. I believe this is the main reason for the success of the Company, an open-door policy where Directors and Management are approachable by all. There’s also a great “work hard & have fun” element throughout the Company.

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Managing over 30 staff across numerous Social Housing and other contracts. 
2. Ensuring a safe and enjoyable working environment for the staff.
3. Looking to secure future contracts to enable the department to grow.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Working my way through the ranks at DPL to achieve my current role.

What are three key responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. To provide our clients with the best advice
2. Accurately specify works to keep the costs down for our customers whilst protecting the company’s interests
3. To support my colleagues across the business where we have multi-discipline enquiries.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Built client confidence which led to securing a £2.6m order with a prestigious brand.

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – Every day is different and I have the pleasure of working with a great bunch of people. The company provides everyone with opportunities for personal growth and development, which is invaluable.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – The projects: The Winerack, Harwich Port, Felixstowe Academy

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The variety of the work and dealing with people

When did you start working for DPL? –  I joined DPL in April 2023.

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. My main responsibilities are to promote and embed a positive safety-focused culture throughout all areas of the business.
2. Ensure that our systems and procedures support our continual improvement model.
3. Maintain the accreditations and certifications.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Having worked in the construction industry for over 30 years, 12 of which focused on the safety and well-being of others in the workplace, I feel that being able to proactively and pragmatically influence the workspace and process to keep others safe is my greatest accomplishment.

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The way that management actively tries to remove work-related stress, encourages us to develop and grow into our roles as part of the wider team.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Delivering large commercial projects on time and within budget. Most recent achievements are working on Homerton College Dining Hall, Clare College Phase 1 B Old Court, Port of Felixstowe Inspection Facility, Gullwing Lowestoft, upgrades and refurbishments within the NHS. 

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – Working at DPL is a pleasure, we have a great team and working environment.

When did you start working for DPL? – I joined DPL Group in February 2016

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – Project management, cost control, procurement of plant, material and labour resources

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – being part of the ongoing rollout of special educational needs schools across the region

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The companionable working environment

When did you start working for DPL? – I started working for DPL in August 2023

What are three key aspects/responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Delivering projects to programme and budget
2. Managing labour levels
3. Managing sub-contractors 

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Securing this role with DPL, where I hope and plan to stay with for the rest of my career.

When did you start working for DPL? – I joined the DPL team in February 2015 as a Senior Craftsman. Progressed on to Site Supervisor in 2017 before moving into the office as a Mechanical Project Engineer in May 2019.

What are three key responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Managing Projects from design, through to completion and handover.
2. Ensuring projects are completed to a high standard.
3. Completing the project within budget and on programme.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – The projects: The Maharishi Training Centre. Colchester Sports & Rugby Club. Vehicle Inspection Facility at the Port of Felixstowe.

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – DPL has a great team and a good work ethic.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Working on some of the largest iconic buildings in Cambridge over last few years

1. Preparing and submitting applications for payments on projects
2. Monitoring project costs and managing sub-contractor orders/payments
3. Reviewing profit/loss values of ongoing projects

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Being part of the team that has successfully delivered a large number of diverse projects

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The people

When did you start working for DPL? – July 2013

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Preparing and sending M&E tenders
2. Carrying out take-offs & determining each individual tender project requirements
3. Communicating with clients and subcontractors.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Being part of an estimating team that has helped secure a number of high-profile projects and achieving an HNC Diploma in construction and the built environment (Building Services Engineering).

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – There is good camaraderie everyone is willing & happy to help each other.

When did you start working for DPL? – April 2021

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Calculate the costs of a project at the tender stage, this requires me to carry out take-offs
2. Analyse specifications and communicate with the client and sub-contractors
3. Provide a quotation which meets the client’s requirements. 

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Receiving a Perfect Delivery Award from Morgan Sindall on my first independently run project within the Engineering department. 

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The working environment, DPL is a friendly and enjoyable place to work, where everyone is willing to help and work together.

What are three responsibilities within your job role? –

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Delivering the Mechanical package of the Winerack project on time and within budget as the mechanical project engineer.

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – Working part of a team to help secure a number of projects

What are three key responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Coordinating/ managing designs
2. Providing M&E design input into schemes
3. Supporting the estimating department with new project enquiries providing initial concepts to schemes. 

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Having the opportunity so far within my career to work on a variety of projects/ schemes that have provided a profound benefit to the local communities and environment.  My proudest moment is working on a national exemplar project seeing this through the design and construction stages and seeing this project overall become a reality.

What are three key responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Management & production of 2D drawings & 3D Revit Models. 
2. Keep up to date with relevant standards applicable to my job role. 
3. Collate & coordinate Subcontractors’ drawings & model information to ensure a workable solution is met.  

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Producing coordinated Revit models for both the Port Of Felixstowe & Harwich Port in a very short time frame

1. Buy all the products for every project at the best possible price 
2. Making sure orders are delivered in a timely manner

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Making personal relationships with my suppliers so that they give us the best discounts, saving the company money

What are three key responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Carrying out quotations
2. Supervising engineers (arranging the work, ordering materials and making sure the work is delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner).
3. NICEIC Electrical Qualified Supervisor for the department.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – The journey of working hard from an electrical apprentice on-site to an Electrical Supervisor.

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – Good working conditions with support when required. I also feel really appreciated and a valued team member

1. Quoting small works
2. Supervision of onsite staff

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – completing a new dining hall at the prestigious Homerton College in Cambridge 

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – I enjoy the fact there is scope to progress within the company, which I have recently done from site into the office.

When did you start working for DPL? – I started working for DPL in June 2016

What are three key aspects/responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Ensure PPMs are running smoothly
2. Coordinating with the engineers

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Passing two levels of AAT accounting 

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The working environment and friendly family atmosphere in the DPL office where support is always on hand

1. Customer relations

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Working as a qualified healthcare assistant at the hospital and being able to transfer the skills into other careers.

1. Carrying out supplier and subcontractor payment runs,

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Starting AAT Level 3 and currently 2/3 of the way completed

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Completing my CIPD level 5

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The feeling of being part of a successful family business with a fantastic culture and work ethic

What are three responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Providing Content to aid in the redevelopment of the new website 
2. Producing content to use on our social media platforms 
3. Assisting with designing solar PV systems for both domestic and commercial projects  

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Aiding in the renovation of the new website, providing content along the way and learning the CMS to take it over. Also learning a whole new sector and becoming a trainee solar designer at the same time.

What are three key aspects/responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Creating content for social media platforms
2. Utilising social media to promote goods, services, and content while adhering to the social media strategy and brand of the organization
3. Assisting with the company’s interactions with the public through implementing content strategies on social media platforms

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Watching myself and the company succeed further every year, developing skills and getting involved in the green movement.  

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – I enjoy working with a team of bright intellectuals who are always striving to be better versions of themselves and how that reflects in their work

What are three key responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Inspect works carried out by our company to ensure compliance with current building regulations
2. Inspect all certifications to ensure full compliance with current building regulations 
3. Assist engineers with guidance to maintain the high level of quality we aim to achieve across all aspects of our services.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Successfully achieving the 2391-52 Initial & periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations course.

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – Working with a great team of people that is enjoyable whilst aiming towards achieving my ambition.

When did you start working for DPL? – Since December 2016

What are three key aspects/responsibilities within your job role? – Organising engineer’s work, assisting the day-to-day running of the department, and providing regular support for all departmental clients. 

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – completing the ILM Level 3 management award. 

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – I enjoy the team that I work with and always have further opportunities to grow and progress my role within the company.

What are three key aspects/responsibilities within your job role? –

1. Point of contact for the department
2. Assisting in the allocation of works for engineers and booking appointments for clients
3. General administrative support; reporting; communication and correspondence

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? – Getting a 1^st at university

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The team are great, and so supportive, it is a really lovely atmosphere to work in!

What are three key aspects/responsibilities within your job role? – 

1. Handling general enquiries via phone or email
2. Managing meeting room availability and preparing it for use

What do you enjoy most about working for DPL? – The atmosphere here is so homely and it is very easy to get on with everyone.
